These accomplishments represent the foundation for IITS’s next phase: expanding from successful programs and professional training toward a stronger network of Ukrainian institutions capable of sustaining trauma-informed recovery over the long term.
Partnership is the model
IITS was built on collaboration. Ukrainian institutions provide the leadership, local knowledge, professional expertise, and infrastructure that anchor the Institute’s work. International partners contribute specialized expertise, research, training, supervision, and resources.
Together, these relationships allow knowledge to move in both directions—supporting approaches that are informed by international experience while being adapted, tested, and developed within Ukraine.
The goal is not to create long-term dependence on outside expertise, but to strengthen Ukrainian institutions and professional networks so that trauma-informed knowledge and practice can continue to grow within the country.

Ukraine’s recovery will require trauma-informed capacity that extends across institutions, professions, and communities for years to come.
IITS is building on its foundation in education, clinical training, and professional collaboration to deepen connections among universities, clinicians, educators, researchers, civil society organizations, veteran-serving organizations, and local governments across Ukraine.
The next phase will focus on strengthening these networks, expanding opportunities for training and supervision, supporting knowledge exchange and research, and helping embed trauma-informed approaches within Ukrainian institutions.
